Former Peruvian leader, Francisco Morales Bermudez, charges with CAH: On Thursday, 10 September 2015, a Peruvian judge charged former leader Francisco Morales Bermudez along with three other high ranking military officers for their alleged role in Plan Condor. The legal action is the first time the Peruvian former leader has been charged with committing crimes against humanity during his regime from 1975-1980. The charges allege his role in the kidnapping of 13 Peruvian citizens in 1978. A former leftist leader Ricardo Letts said the following regarding the legal proceedings; “[t]his is not about Peru belonging to Plan Condor. More importantly this is about Francisco Morales being prosecuted for the crimes against humanity he committed in May of 1978 against 13 Peruvians.” (teleSUR)

UNSC approves international investigation of Syrian chemical attacks: On Thursday, 10 September 2015 the UN Security Council approved an international investigation to assign blame for chemical weapon attacks in Syria. The official start of the inquiry was reportedly delayed by objections from Russia. However, in a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Thursday Russia lifted its objections. In a statement the U.N. Secretary General said that he would “without delay, undertake al steps, measures and arrangements necessary for the speedy establishment and full functioning of the [joint investigative mechanism].” For more information on this issue please click here. Former Chadian Minister testifies in Habre trial: On Thursday, 10 September 2015, Faustin Facho Balaam, a former minister of former Chadian president Hissene Habre testified before the Extraordinary African Chambers in Senegal. Balaam said “In the cabinet, substantive issues were not discussed. We challenged nothing. Once the president decided something that was it. Balaam who is now a refugee in France said that “People in all ethnic groups were killed. This was a terrifying period that marked us all and still marks the Chadians.” Habre is being prosecuted in Senegal for war crimes, crimes against humanity and torture committed against thousands of Chadians. Habre refuses to recognize the authority of the Extraordinary African Chambers. (Yahoo! News)
